The Mizar trio offers a unique combination of instruments which allows for audiences to explore a colourful sound palette in a program made up of works that draw from both the familiar and unusual. The trio consists of three of South Africa’s most exciting and versatile young musicians who are establishing themselves in the orchestral, contemporary, chamber music and jazz fields. The group derive their name from the first double star system that was discovered with the naked eye by an assistant of Galileo’s in the 16th century. The gravitational forces at play are, to them, reminiscent of the musical collaboration and trust required for truly inspiring chamber music.
